Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks returned to the green on Wednesday after previous session’s marginal correction as investors took position on heavyweight stocks.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX), ended at 4,389.35 points, gaining 26.56 points or 0.60 percent.

The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 10.19 points or 0.63 percent to close at 1,605.13 points.

The DSES advanced 9.12 points or 0.92 percent to close at 1,001.53 points.

The total turnover on DSE stood at BDT 2.56 billion which was 32.7 percent higher compared to previous session’s value of BDT 1.93 billion.

“Riding on positive movement of large caps in food and allied, cement and engineering sectors, the market ended green,” said IDLC Investments.

 “Expectation on upcoming earnings and corporate disclosures merged with the day’s vibe,” the merchant bank added.

Lankabangla Securities said: “Investors showed up with strong position from the beginning of the trading session mostly in fuel and power stocks”.

“Investors jolted for buying side from the staring of the trading session. Perhaps last session’s shed-off in the indices created some stimulus for them to bounce over the buying mood,” said International Leasing Securities.

Out of 292 issues traded, 156 advanced, 84 declined and 52 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.

Top five issues in turnover chart captured 36.52 percent day’s total trade.

Beximco Limited was the most traded stock for the fourth trading sessions with shares worth BDT 380.79 million changing hands followed by GP, Square Pharma, Lafarge Surma Cement and Meghna Petroleum.

Shahjibazar Power, which made debut on Tuesday, was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 10.13 percent while Popular Life Insurance was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 5.48 percent.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended in green with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 41.28 points to close at 8,332.73 points.

Gainers beat losers 98 to 63, with 38 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 5.56 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 221.51 million.
