Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks ended higher on Wednesday amid rising trading activities as optimistic investors were active on selective large-cap stocks.

Analysts said the optimistic investors showed their buying appetite on some large-cap stocks as most of the company disclosed their quarterly earnings and year-end dividend declarations.

The market started with an upward trend and the positive trend sustained till end of the session with no sign of reversal, finally ended more than 52 points higher.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the core index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), which replaced the DGEN in four-and-a-half-year back, settled at 6,072 points, after advancing 52.74 points or 0.87 percent over the previous session.

The two other indices also ended higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 20.96 points or 0.97 percent to finish at 2,189 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.28 points or 0.40 percent to close at 1,321 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, rose to BDT 6.63 billion, which was 23 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 5.37 billion.

A total number of 0.121 million trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 194.85 million securities.

The total market capitalisation of the DSE stood at BDT 4,110 billion, against BDT 4,090 billion in the previous session.

The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 333 issues traded, 210 closed higher, 78 closed lower and 45 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.

LankaBangla Finance topped the turnover chart with about 8.02 million shares of BDT 512 million changing hands, followed by Brac Bank, Western Marine Shipyard, Khulna Power Company and IDLC Finance.

Western Marine Shipyard was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.04 percent gain, while Shepherd Industries was the worst loser, plunging by 5.56 percent.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing by 121 points to settle at 11,393.

Gainers beat losers as 166 issues closed higher, 50 closed lower and 25 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 17.20 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 745 million in turnover.
