Bangladesh’s stocks close higher for 4th session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The bourses gained sharply for the fourth running session on Tuesday with turnover crossing Tk 4.0 billion-mark as investors went for buying spree amid fresh optimism.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) crossed 3,900 points mark and ended at 3,957.05 points, gaining 81.22 points or 2.09 per cent.

The other two indices also posted significant gains --- the DSEX went up by 91.22 points or 2.47 per cent to close at 3,771.05 while the blue chip index DS30 rose 19.45 points or 1.42 per cent to 1,380.07 points.

Turnover at DSE stood at BDT 4.23 billion, an increase of 43.33 per cent over the previous session. It was also three-month highest turnover since February 20.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 282 issues traded at DSE, 250 advanced, 29 declined and three remained unchanged.

United Airways was the most traded stock of the day with shares worth BDT 200.20 million changing hands.

Pragati Insurance was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.95 per cent while Renata was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 17.18 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the Selective Categories Index gained 178.72 points to close at 7,432.62 points.

Gainers beat losers 183 to 13 with one issue remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 18.78 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 482.04 million.
