Bangladesh’s stocks close higher for second day

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks closed higher Monday for the second consecutive session on the bourses with turnover value improved slightly as investors went for buying amid optimism.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 4,354.27, gaining 5.62 points or 0.12 per cent.

The newly introduced DSE Board Index (DSEX) gained 22.70 points or 0.53 per cent to close at 4,271.15. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) closed at 1,541.28 points, after gaining 0.35 points or 0.02 per cent.

The turnover of the premier bourse -- DSE stood at BDT 4.38 billion, a 4.79 per cent higher compared previous session’s BDT 4.18 billion.

Of the 276 issues traded on the premier bourse, 183 advanced, 76 declined and 17 remained unchanged.

United Airways topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 227.51 million changing hands.

Green Delta Insurance was the day’s highest gainer following the news of its board meeting and posting a rise of 9.97 per cent while Libra Infusion was the worst loser, slumping by 3.79 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE gained 54.47 points to close at 8,503.12 points.

Gainers beat losers 127 to 57 with 15 issues remaining unchanged with trading volume of 14.09 million shares and mutual fund units on the port city bourse with BDT 497.52 million in turnover.
