Bangladesh’s stocks close higher for second session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Share prices on the bourses ended higher for the second running session on Wednesday with improving turnover value as most investors went for buying amid lucrative prices of shares.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange ----DGEN ended at 3,925.21 points, gaining 52.67 points or 1.36 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went up by 48.25 points or 1.27 per cent to close at 3,836.11 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also advanced 17.46 points or 1.25 per cent to close at 1,405.31.

The turnover on the premier bourse stood at BDT 1.97 billion, up by 20.12 per cent from previous session’s BDT 1.65 billion.

Of the 275 issues traded on the DSE, 224 advanced, 37 declined and 14 remained unchanged.

Unique Hotel and Resorts was the most traded stocks with shares worth BDT 189.04 million changing hands. Summit Purbanchol Power Company, Golden Harvest Agro Industries, United Airways and Beximco Limited were the day’s next popular stocks.

Unique Hotel and Resorts was also the day’s top gainer, posting a rise of 9.88 per cent while United Leasing Company was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 14.55 per cent following its corporate declaration.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE rose 147.03 points or 1.97 per cent to close at 7,601.53 points.

Gainers beat losers 129 to 34 with 11 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 6.71 million share and mutual fund units, generating BDT 256.33 million in turnover.
