Bangladesh’s stocks close higher for second session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks on the bourses ended higher on Tuesday with improving turnover value as investors went for buying shares amid optimism.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 3,977.44 points, gaining only 18.63 points or 0.47 per cent.

The other two indices also ended in green --- the DSEX went up by 9.76 points or 0.26 per cent to close at 3,757.99 while the blue chip index DS30 rose 3.38 points or 0.24 per cent to close at 1,381.97 points.

Activity remained upbeat over persistence of buying spree, pulling turnover to BDT 2.30 billion which is 26.5 per cent higher compared to previous session’s value of BDT 1.87 billion.

Out of 285 issues traded at DSE, 165 advanced, 90 and 30 remained unchanged.

Mutual Funds registered the highest amounts in turnover with market capitalization going up by 1.69 per cent.

Orion Pharma was the most traded stock of the day with shares worth BDT 139.74 million changing hands.

Rahim Textile was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.98 per cent while Savar Refractories was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 10 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended marginally higher with the Selective Categories Index gained 19.58 points to close at 7,412.17 points.

Gainers beat losers 99 to 62 with 31 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 8.56 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 230.30 million.
