Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The bourses ended higher for the sixth running session on Monday with turnover hitting four months high as investors’ continued to inject fresh fund into the market on budgetary expectations.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 4,216.59, gaining 53.79 points or 1.29 per cent, highest since February 20, 2013.

The other two indices also ended green — the DSEX went up by 31.72 points or 0.80 per cent to close at 3,974.97 points while the blue chip index DS30 advanced 16.50 points or 1.14 per cent to close at 1,462.29 points.

Turnover improved further to BDT 5.47 billion, an increase of 14.91 per cent compared to previous session’s value of BDT 4.76 billion.

The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 284 issues traded, 184 advanced, 79 declined and 21 remained unchanged in the primer bourse.

United Airways was the day’s most traded stock with shares worth BDT 284.95 million changing hands.

Apex Spinning was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.80 per cent while Progressive Life Insurance was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 8.41 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher for the sixth session with the Selective Categories Index gained 61.78 points to close at 7,842.43 points.

Gainers beat losers 104 to 77, with 24 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 15.40 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 496.78 million.
