Bangladesh’s stocks close higher for third session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Share prices on the bourses rose for the third running session on Wednesday with turnover improved significantly amid countrywide strike enforced by opposition parties.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 3,738.70 points, gaining 6.05 points or 0.16 per cent.

The DSEX went up by 16.87 points or 0.46 per cent to close at 3,611.30. The DS30 also rose 1.43 points or 0.10 per cent to close at 1,330.53.

The turnover on the premier bourse improved significantly to BDT 2.09 billion, against BDT 1.87 billion in the previous session.

Of the 278 issues traded at the DSE, 155 advanced, 101 declined and 22 remained unchanged.

Orion Pharma was the most traded stocks on the day with shares worth BDT 110.03 million changing hands.

Modern Dyeing was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.95 per cent while Trust Bank was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 8.46 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed positive with the Selective Categories Index gained 38.75 points to close at 7,142.32 points.

Gainers beat losers 104 to 66 with 17 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 11.09 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 288.52 million.
