Bangladesh’s stocks close higher for third session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The market ended higher for the third running session Monday as ease in political atmosphere and growing budgetary expectations continued to dominate investor sentiments.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 4,096.76 points, gaining 16.78 points or 0.41 per cent.

The other two indices also ended in green --- the DSEX went up by 28.76 points or 0.74 per cent to close at 3,902.39 while the blue chip index DS30 advanced 9.58 points or 0.67 per cent to close at 1,420.35 points.

The total DSE turnover stood at BDT 4.70 billion which was 12.6 per cent lower than previous session’s 3-month high turnover value.

Out of 273 issues traded at DSE, 89 advanced, 170 declined and 14 remained unchanged.

Orion Phrama was the most traded stock of the day with shares worth BDT 280.59 million changing hands.

BD Finance was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.79 per cent while Republic Insurance was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 5.94 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended marginally higher with the Selective Categories Index gained 33.80 points to close at 7,687.52 points.

However, losers beat gainers 122 to 63 with nine issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 18.10 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 565.48 million.
