Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks ended lower on Sunday, snapping a four-day gaining streak, as investors booked some profits on sector-wise issues.

Market operators said investors booked profit on some specific stocks while some were busy with rebalancing their portfolio.

The prime market of Bangladesh started on negative note and the downward trend continued till end of the session, eventually ended more than 29 points lower.

On the other hand, the port city market also opened negative and the note persisted till the closing taking the second market of Bangladesh to finish 98 points down.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, went down by 29.70 points or 0.55 per cent, closing the day at 5,276.

Two other indices – the DS30 index and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) – also closed lower.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 13.52 points to finish at 1,855 and the DSE Shariah Index lost 6.46 points to close at 1,221.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at BDT 5.69 billion, which was nearly 3.0 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 5.52 billion.

Of the traded issues, 184 declined, 110 advanced and 31 securities closed unchanged on the premier bourse.

A total number of 133,705 trades were executed in the day’s trading session on the DSE with trading volume of 124.78 million securities.

The market capitalisation of the DSE also fell to BDT 3,816 billion on the day which was BDT 3,830 billion in the previous session.

Khulna Power Company dominated the DSE turnover chart with 3.88 million shares worth BDT 268 million changing hands.

The other turnover leaders were Intech, SK Trims Industries and United Power.

IT Consultants was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.25 percent while Kohinoor Chemicals was the worst loser, losing 19.14 percent following its poor dividend declaration.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended lower with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – losing 98 points to settle at 16,185 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX – shedding 62 points to finish at 9,812.

The losers beat gainers as 142 issues closed lower, 58 ended higher, with 26 issues remaining unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 8.61 million shares and mutual fund units worth BDT 258 million in turnover.
