Bangladesh’s stocks close lower amid hartal

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks closed lower for the second session on Monday on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) with improvement in turnover value amid countrywide hartal enforced by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The General Index of the DSE---DGEN ended at 4,356.60 points, after losing 17.62 points or 0.40 per cent.

The turnover on the premier bourse -- DSE rose 10.15 per cent to BDT 4.99 billion from previous session’s BDT 4.53 billion.

Of the 275 issues traded on the premier bourse, 80 advanced, 165 and 30 remained unchanged.

United Airways topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 626.66 million changing hands.

Purabi General Insurance was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 9.91 per cent while Meghna PET was the worst loser, slumping by 6.94 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 47.24 points to close at 8,505.88.

Losers beat gainers 43 to 135 with 9 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse with 14.05 million shares and mutual fund units were trading volume, generating BDT 520.40 million in turnover.
