Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) –Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed gaining streak on Monday for the third sessions in a row as the investors went for buying binge on large-cap stocks.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the key bourse of the country, and the Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of Bangladesh, recorded gain at opening and continued the trend throughout the session.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose 17.89 points or 0.37 percent to settle at 4,786.19.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 6.32 points or 0.34 percent to finish at 1,824.92.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 6.30 points or 0.53 percent to end at 1,175.46.
DSE turnover fell to BDT 4.37 billion, which was 4.38 percent lower than the previous session’s BDT 4.57 billion as a section of investors followed meticulous strategy ahead of Eid festival.
The gainers took a marginal lead over the losers as out of 322 issues traded, 145 closed higher, 138 lower and 39 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco Pharma dominated the day’s turnover chart with shares of BDT 205 million changing hands followed by Lafarge Surma Cement, Aman Feed, Square Pharma and United Airways.
Power Grid Compnay was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 9.76 percent while Imam Button was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 8.84 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), closed marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 38.86 points to end at 8,909.
Losers beat gainers as 114 issue declined while 101 advanced. And 36 issues remained unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 9.47 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of BDT 278.48 million.
