Bangladesh’s stocks dip, turnover rises

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks closed lower for the third running session on Tuesday on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) with turnover rose significantly.

The General Index of the DSE---DGEN ended at 4,301.11 points, after losing 55.48 points or 1.27 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX) went down by 54.82 points or 1.28 per cent to close at 4,210.26 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also declined 17.58 points or 1.11 per cent to close at 1,523.39.

The turnover on the premier bourse --- DSE rose 8.6 per cent to BDT 5.43 billion from previous session’s BDT 4.99 billion.

Of the 276 issues traded on the premier bourse, 48 advanced, 206 and 22 remained unchanged.

Argon Denims, which made debut today (Tuesday) dominated the day’s top gainer and top turnover list with shares worth BDT 613.43 million changing hands. United Airways, Summit Purbanchol Power and RN Spinning were the day’s next popular stocks.

Argon Denims was also the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 134.28 per cent while Prime Finance was the worst loser, slumping by 7.97 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 93.91 points to close at 8,411.97.

Losers beat gainers 30 to 158 with 9 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse with 14.80 million shares and mutual fund units were trading volume, generating BDT 640.71 million in turnover.
