Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The prices of most stocks edged down for the fifth straight session on Monday with turnover increased slightly as cautious investors’ sold shares amid lack of confidence.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange —-DGEN—ended at 3,842.32 points after losing 31.14 points or 0.80 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went down by 29.89 points or 0.78 per cent to close at 3,761.97 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also lost 7.07 points or 0.51 per cent to close at 1,375.56.

The turnover on the premier bourse stood at BDT 1.92 billion up by 8.42 per cent from previous session’s BDT 1.77 billion. Four new four issues contributed around 46 per cent of day’s total turnover value.

Of the 265 issues traded on the DSE, 106 advanced, 133 declined and 26 remained unchanged.

Newly listed securities dominated the day’s top turnover chart with Summit Purbanchol Power Company was the most traded stocks with shares worth BDT 159.76 million changing hands.

Other new issues—Global Heavy Chemical worth shares BDT 126.88 million, Premier Cement BDT 105.31 million and Golden Harvest Agro BDT 86.75 million changed hands.

Golden Harvest Agro Industries was also the day’s top gainer, posting a rise of 9.52 per cent while Eastern Bank was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 9.75 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 63.29 points to close at 7,447.73 points.

Of the 180 issues traded on the port city bourse, 41 advanced, 121 declined and 18 remained unchanged. A total of 6.68 million share and mutual fund units were traded, generating BDT 263.52 million in turnover.
