Bangladesh’s stocks edge lower

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The bourses ended marginally lower on the closing session of the week on Thursday with declining turnover value low as most investors remained reluctant to make fresh investments.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 3,653.88 points, shedding 6.71 points or 0.18 per cent.

The other two indices remained flat--- the DSEX went down by 3.0 points or 0.08 per cent to close at 3,503.56. The DS30, however, advanced 1.02 points or 0.07 per cent to close at 1,308.37.

The turnover at DSE dropped further to BDT 1.12 billion, registering 13.85 per cent decline from previous session’s value. It was also three-month lowest value since January 21.

Of the 272 issues traded at the premier bourse, 101 advanced, 140 declined and 31 remained unchanged.

Beximco Limited was the most traded stocks on the day after several weeks with shares worth BDT 58.22 million changing hands.

Reckitt Benckiser was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 7.24 per cent while Pragati Life Insurance was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 14.62 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended flat with the Selective Categories Index gained only 2.07 points to close at 6,940.24 points.

Losers beat gainers 100 to 58 with 24 issues remaining unchanged in the port city bourse that traded 4.87 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 142.23 million.
