Bangladesh’s stocks edge lower

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks edged marginally lower on Sunday with improving turnover as late hour sell-pressure cut early gain.

The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX --- went down by 12.43 points or 0.26 per cent to close the session at 4,687.19 points.

The DS30, comprising blue chips lost 4.79 points or 0.28 per cent to close at 1,685.32 points. However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) managed to close positive with gaining 8.27 points or 0.82 per cent to close at 1,019.62 points.

Turnover value on DSE stood at BDT 5.10 billion, registering 23.78 per cent increase over the previous session’s value.

Out of 293 issues traded, 185 declined, 83 advanced and 25 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor.

Lafarge Surma Cement dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth BDT 408.98 million changing hands followed by Square Pharma, Square Textile, BSCCL and GrameenPhone.

Progressive Life Insurance was also the day’s highest gainer; posting a rise of 7.30 per cent while IDLC Finance was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 24.05 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The port city bourse --- the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed down with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX lost 58.45 points to close at 9,149.29 points.

Losers beat gainers 153 to 53, with 16 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 8.26 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 458.32 million.
