Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed yet another flat session on Monday as most of the investors maintained their cautious stance ahead of national budget.
Following the previous day’s marginal correction, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell 5.0 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 7.0 points within first 15 minutes of trading at 10:45am.
After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX stands at 5,530, losing 2.95 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse dropped 7.71 points.
After that it started to upward trend and recovered the initial losses as the session progressed.
At 12noon, the DSEX gained 12.22 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 36 points when the report was filing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finally failed to continue the momentum and finished at 5529.51, losing 3.94 points or 0.07 percent over the previous session.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also fell 2.05 points or 0.16 percent to close at 1276 points.
However, the DS30 index, comprising the blue-chips, advanced 2.18 points or 0.10 percent to settle at 2036 points.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, came down to BDT 6.32 billion, which was 14 percent lower than the previous day’s BDT 7.38 billion.
The gainers, however, took a modest lead over the losers as out of the 322 issues traded on the DSE floor, prices of 144 securities advanced, 133 declined and 45 remained unchanged.
Argon Denims emerged as turnover leader with shares of nearly BDT 203 million changing hands, closely followed by United Power, LankaBangla Finance, FAS Finance and Investment and Doreen Power.
FAS Finance was the day’s top gainer, posting 9.82 percent gain while DBH First Mutual Fund was the worst lower, losing 9.40 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
However, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), edged up with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 6.05 points to settle at 10,404.
Gainers, however, beat losers as 110 issues closed higher, 100 closed lower and 33 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city bourse traded 12.68 million shares and mutual fund units worth BDT 332 million in turnover.
