Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks edged lower on Tuesday after witnessing volatility throughout the trading session as some investors were cautious ahead of national budget to be unveiled Thursday next.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and the Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of the country, moved heavily between red and green throughout the session as intra-day volatility was around 22 points.
Key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange shedded 3.61 points while the selective category index of Chittagong Stock Exchange dropped 7.78 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, edged 3.61 points or 0.08 per cent lower to settle at 4,419.39 points.
However, two other indices ended in green territory. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 12.03 points or 0.69 per cent to finish at 1,745.81 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 2.17 points or 0.20 per cent to close at 1,091.86 points.
DSE turnover came down to BDT 4.26 billion, which was 8.18 percent lower than the previous day’s three weeks high turnover of BDT 4.64 billion.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 316 issues traded, 183 closed lower, 89 closed higher and 44 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Lafarge Surma Cement dominated the turnover chart with shares worth nearly BDT 330 million changing hands, followed by Titas Gas BDT 223 million, Summit Alliance Port BDT 133 million, Olympic Industries BDT 128 million and Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries BDT 124 million.
HR Textile was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 610 percent, while Exim bank First Mutual Fund was the worst loser, plunging 6.56 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
However, the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) edged higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX- advancing 7.78 points to close at 8,287.35 points.
Losers beat gainers 126 to 68, with 40 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 9.27 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of over BDT 248 million.
