Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks on the both bourses—Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange ended marginally higher on Monday with declining turnover value amid countrywide hartal.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange —-DGEN ended at 3,947.73 points, after gaining 11.77 points or 0.29 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went up by 16.89 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 3,862.70 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also advanced 6.37 points or 0.45 per cent to close at 1,418.26.

The turnover on the premier bourse came down to BDT 1.38 billion, down by 19.76 per cent from previous session’s BDT 1.72 billion. This was also three-month lowest turnover since January 21 when it was recorded BDT 1.01 billion.

Of the 268 issues traded on the DSE, 150 advanced, 91 declined and 27 remained unchanged. Summit Purbanchol Power Company was the most traded stocks with shares worth BDT 121.13 million changing hands. Unique Hotel and Resorts, Lafarge Surma Cement, Golden Harvest Agro Industries and United Airways were the day’s next popular stocks.

The Southeast Bank Ltd was also the day’s top gainer, posting a rise of 9.82 per cent following its corporate declaration while United Insurance was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 15.19 per cent following its price adjustments after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE gained 64.39 points to close at 7,655.32 points.

Gainers beat losers 96 to 58 with 18 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 5.71 million share and mutual fund units, generating BDT 186.73 million in turnover.
