Bangladesh’s stocks end flat amid low turnover

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stock prices on the bourses ended flat on Tuesday with turnover dipping further as most investors remained inactive amid political worries.

Amid volatile trading throughout the session, the General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 3,662.40 points, adding only 1.52 points or 0.41 per cent.

The DSEX, however, went down by 0.70 points or 0.01 per cent to close at 3,515.26. The DS30 advanced 1.87 points or 0.14 per cent to close at 1,307.46.

Amid low participation, the turnover on the premier bourse declined further to BDT 1.21 billion which is 9.02 per cent lower compared to previous session’s value of BDT 1.33 billion.
Of the 274 issues traded at the DSE, 143 advanced, 100 declined and 31 remained unchanged.

Newly listed Bengal Windsor Thermoplastic was the most traded stocks on the day with shares worth BDT 71.29 million changing hands. Square Pharma, RN Spinning, Orion Pharma and United Airways were the day’s next popular stocks.

Monno Ceramics was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.38 per cent while ONE Bank was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 16.57 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended marginally higher with the Selective Categories Index gained 20.56 points to close at 6,960.94 points.

Losers beat gainers 88 to 73 with 28 issues remaining unchanged in the port city bourse that traded 4.96 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 146.20 million.
