Bangladesh’s stocks end higher for 2nd day

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks extended their gaining streak for the second day in a row on Wednesday as optimistic investors continued their buying spree on large-cap stocks.
Analysts said the market kept the upward trend amid increased participation from investors as enthusiastic remained active in the market.
The market started with a positive note and the upbeat trend sustained till end of the session with no sign of reversal, ultimately ended nearly 21 points higher.
The key index of DSE gained 20.84 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 27.23 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 5,625.83, advancing 20.84 points or 0.37 per cent over the previous day.
The DS30, comprising blue chips, also advanced 7.49 points or 0.36 per cent to close at 2,033.46 points.
However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) saw a fractional loss of 0.05 point to close at 1,313.14 points.
Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, crossed BDT 13 billion-mark after one month on the major bourse and amounted to BDT 13.10 billion, which was 0.85 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 12.98 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 328 issues traded, 139 closed higher, 137 closed lower and 52 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Baraka Power dominated the DSE turnover chart for the fourth day in a row with about 10.85 million shares worth over BDT 568 million changing hands, followed by LankaBangla Finance, IDLC Finance, Beximco and ACME Laboratories.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 27.23 points to settle at 10,566.43 points.
Losers beat gainers as 111 issues closed lower, 110 closed higher and 34 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 21.70 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 803 million in turnover.
