Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks ended higher on Tuesday with core index crossed the 5,300-mark again as investors showed their buying spree on banking and telecommunication issues.

Analysts said some institutional investors were active on sector specific issues, particularly banking, financial institutions and telecommunication.

The market opened on positive note and the upward trend continued till end of the session with no sign of reversal, finally DSEX ended more than 48 points higher.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 5,345, advancing 48.87 points or 0.92 percent over the previous day.

Two other indices—the DS30 index and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES)–also ended higher.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 14.41 points to finish at 1,870 and the DSE Shariah Index rose 9.60 points to close at 1,234.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, also rose to BDT 6.83 billion, which was 24 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 5.49 billion.

A total number of 164,286 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 214.05 million securities.

The market capitalisation of the DSE stood at BDT 3,840 billion on the day which was BDT 3,817 billion in the previous day.

The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 341 issues traded, 211 advanced, 85 declined and 45 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Square Pharmaceuticals topped the DSE turnover chart with 702,461 shares worth BDT 182 million changing hands.
The other turnover leaders were Advent Pharma, Saiham Cotton Mills, Pacific Denims and United Power.

Sonali Aansh Industries was also the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 11.64 percent following its dividend declaration and business expansion plan.

Monno Jute Stafflers was the worst loser, losing 5.76 percent.

The port city bourse CSE ended higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –advancing 135 points to settle at 16,399 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX –gaining 76 points to finish at 9,933.

The gainers beat losers as 156 issues closed higher, 66 ended lower and 22 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 13.67 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than BDT 326 million in turnover.
