Bangladesh’s stocks end higher for second session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The bourses ended higher for the second running session on Sunday with turnover hitting three months high as investors went for buying spree amid strong optimism.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) crossed 4,000 points mark after 52-session to close at 4,079.97 points, gaining 97.90 points or 2.45 per cent.

The DSEX went up by 99.84 points or 2.64 per cent to close at 3,873.62 while the blue chip index DS30 rose 27.69 points or 2.0 per cent to close at 1,410.77 points.

The DSE also saw significant improvement in liquidity as the total turnover recorded BDT 5.38 billion, an increase of 39.5 per cent from previous session’s value, also three months highest turnover since February 19.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 284 issues traded at DSE, 235 advanced, 39 declined and 10 remained unchanged.

Orion Phrama was the most traded stock of the day with shares worth BDT 317.22 million changing hands.

Meghna Cement was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.95 per cent while Rahim Textile was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 6.24 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the Selective Categories Index gained 209.19 points to close at 7,653.71 points.

Gainers beat losers 170 to 27 with nine issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 18.16 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 525.96 million.
