Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks extended their gaining spell for the third consecutive sessions on Wednesday, as optimistic investors remained on buying spree, especially on large-cap stocks.
The market started with an upward note which continued till end of the session. At the end of the session, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished at 4,575.97 points, advancing 23.61 points or 0.52 per cent.
The two other indices also ended higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, jumped 11.05 points or 0.62 per cent to settle at 1,793.72 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also advanced 5.72 points or 0.51 percent to close at 1,123.47 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, also improved and the total turnover amounted to BDT 4.52 billion on DSE, which was 2.49 per cent higher than the previous day’s value of BDT 4.41 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 325 issues traded, 165 closed higher, 101 closed lower and 59 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company dominated the turnover chart with shares worthBDT 199 million changing hands, followed by Square Pharmaceuticals, Lafarge Surma Cement, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and National Tubes.
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 8.74 per cent, while Sonargoan Textile was the worst loser, plunging by 5.68 per cent.
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher for the third day with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 43.10 points to finish at 8,558.63 points.
Gainers beat losers 123 to 94, with 44 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 9.30 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of BDT 298 million.
