Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks edged lower Sunday on the bourses—Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) with declining turnover value as prudent investors booked profit.

The General Index of the DSE—DGEN went down by 22.60 points or 0.51 per cent to close at 4,374.23 points.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX) ended at 4,286.32 points, after losing 18.64 points or 0.43 per cent. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also lost 6.57 points or 0.42 per cent to close at 1,545.40.

The turnover on the premier bourse — DSE stood at BDT 4.53 billion, down by 17.93 per cent from previous session’s BDT Tk 5.52 billion.

Of the 274 companies and mutual funds units were traded on the premier bourse, among them 72 advanced, 171 declined and 31 remained unchanged.

A total of 0.120 million trades were executed in day’s trading with 107.59 million shares and mutual fund units of trading volume.  

The market capitalisation on the premier bourse stood at BDT 2,471.88 billion against BDT 2,479.70 billion in the previous session.

Unique Hotel and Resorts topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 272.45 million changing hands. United Airways, Beximco Limited and Summit Purbanchol Power were the day’s next popular stocks.

Summit Port Alliance was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 10 per cent while Purabi General Insurance was the worst loser, slumping by 53.52 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 22.45 points to close at 8,553.13 points.

Losers beat gainers 40 to 136 with 16 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse with turnover value of BDT 463.59 million.
