Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks extended the gaining streak for the second day in a row on Thursday as investors continued to show their buying appetite on sector-wise stocks.

Dealers said some investors remained active on sector specific shares after the Chinese consortium officially became the strategic partner of premier bourse.

The market opened on positive note and the key index of the major bourse crossed the 5,600-mark in the mid-session. But rest of session eroded most of the early gain.

Finally, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), advanced with 12 points while the port city bourse also finished higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – advancing 60 points.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

At closing, DSEX settled at 5,574, advancing 12 points or 0.21 percent over the previous day.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also advanced 2.91 points to finish at 1,958.

However, the DSE Shariah Index fell 1.30 points to close at 1,278.

Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, remained above BDT 8.0 billion level and amounted to BDT 8.17 billion, which was BDT 8.12 billion in the previous session.

A total number of 153,382 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 200.10 million securities.

The market capitalisation of the DSE stood at BDT 3,963 billion on the day which was BDT 3,962 billion in the previous day.

Of the 336 issues traded, 149 declined, 136 advanced and 51 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Khulna Power Company topped the DSE turnover chart for the fifth straight day with shares worth BDT 637 million changing hands, followed by Active Fine Chemicals, Summit Power, IFAD Autos and Nahee Aluminum.

Summit Power was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 8.14 percent while Meghna Pet Industries was the worst loser, losing 6.99 percent.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE

The port city bourse CSE finished higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – advancing 60 points to settle at 17,202 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX –gaining 40 points to finish at 10,426.

The gainers beat losers as 111 issues closed higher, 102 ended lower and 38 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 10.92 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than BDT 360 million in turnover.
