Bangladesh’s stocks fail to stay positive at midday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks failed to stay in the positive trend at midday on Thursday as cautious investors started to book profit on sector-wise stocks.

Following the previous six days’ upturn, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher, but trading activities remains low.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 10 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of port city’s bourse rose 12 points at 10:45am.

However, since then it started to decline amid profit booking tendency of investors and eroded most of the initial gains.

After first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 4.70 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of port city’s bourse gained 19 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX fell 4.18 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index lost 2.17 points at 12noon when the report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 6,314 points, losing 4.17 points at 12noon.

The two other indices also saw negative trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 2.17 points or 0.09 percent to reach at 2,299 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 0.84 points or 0.05 percent to reach at 1,411 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 1.76 billion, when the report was filed at 12noon.

United Power was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth BDT 152 million changing hands, followed by Barak Power BDT 72 million, Legacy Footwear BDT 60 million, Paramount Textile BDT 50 million and Dragon Sweater BDT 49 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 130 advanced, 120 declined and 67 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) saw negative trend till then with CSE All Shares Price Index of – losing 28 points to stand at 19,514 points, also at 12noon.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also lost 19 points to reach at 11,796 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 63 gained, 75 declined and 23 issues remained unchanged with BDT 70 million in turnover.
