Bangladesh’s stocks fail to stay positive at midday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks failed to stay in the positive trend at midday on Thursday as some investors went on selling binge on sector-wise stocks.

Following the previous day’s sharp gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 20 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 32 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 13 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 33 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX fell more than 3.0 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index lost 1.188 points at 12noon, when the report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,419 points, losing 3.58 points or 0.06 percent at 12noon.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also lost 3.56 points to reach at 1,895 points till then.

However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 0.69 points to stand at 1,248 points till then.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 3.40 billion when the report was filed at 12noon.

Khulna Power was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth BDT 618 million changing hands, closely followed by United Power BDT330 million, Active Fine Chemicals BDT 130 million, IFAD Autos BDT 132 million and BBS Cables BDT 128 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 148 advanced, 120 declined and 55 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw negative trend till then with CSE All Shares Price Index of port city’s bourse–losing 1.18 points to stand at 16,669 points, also at 12noon.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also lost 0.78 points to reach at 10,097 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 72 gained, 85 declined and 18 issues remained unchanged with BDT 96 million in turnover.
