Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed a mild correction on Sunday, snapping a three day’s winning spell, as risk-averse investors booked quick-profit on sector specific stocks.
The market started with a higher note and the key index of the premier bourse rose around 19 points with first hour of trading, but could not sustain amid profit booking sale pressure, ultimately closed in the red.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 0.73 points and the Selective Catagories Index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange advanced 12.76 points at closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,822.29, losing 0.73 points or 0.02 percent over the previous day.
The DS30 comprising blue chips also fell 4.40 points or 0.25 percent to settle at 1,783.29 points.
However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES), advanced 0.04 point to close at 1,149.55 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, also fell to BDT 7.33 billion, which was 8.72 percent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 8.03 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 322 issues traded, 139 closed lower, 126 closed higher and 57 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Bangladesh Building Systems dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 7.72 million shares worth BDT 347 million changing hands, closely followed by National Tubes BDT 213 million, Lafarge Surma Cement BDT 210 million, IFAD Autos BDT 193 million and Shasha Denims BDT 187 million.
Rahima Foods was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.99 percent gain, while National Tubes was the worst loser, slumping by 8.85 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
However, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), finished marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 12.76 points to settle at 9,036.02 points.
Losers beat gainers as 113 issues closed lower, 101 closed higher and 29 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 16.49 million shares and mutual fund units worth over BDT 446 million in turnover.
