Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks finished almost flat in the red on Monday, snapping a four day gaining spell, as some risk-averse investors booked profit on sector specific stocks.
The market started with a positive note and the key index of the premier bourse rose around 15 points within first 40 minutes of trading.
But mid-session selling spree wiped out almost all the early gain, ultimately closed almost flat.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,721.40 points, slipping 0.58 point and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX – of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) advanced 1.83 points to settle at 8,849.26 points.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,721.40 points, slipping 0.58 point or 0.01 percent over the previous day.
However, the two other indices closed in the positive zone. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 1.49 points or 0.08 percent to settle at 1,765.30 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) saw a fractional gain of 0.87 point or 0.08 percent to close at 1,127.46 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, however, rose to BDT 6.10 billion, which was 6.27 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 5.74 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 311 issues traded, 138 closed lower, 136 closed higher and 37 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
BATBC dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 253 million changing hands, closely followed by Beximco BDT 227 million, Square Pharmaceuticals BDT 201 million, AB Bank BDT 126 million and National Tubes BDT 123 million.
Aamra Technologies was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 8.77 percent, while Apollo Ispat Complex was the worst loser, plunging by 8.07 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), finished slightly higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 1.83 points to settle at 8,849.26 points.
Gainers beat losers as 106 issues closed higher, 95 closed lower and 31 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 14.86 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth nearly Tk 427 million in turnover.
