Bangladesh’s stocks finish flat after bumpy ride

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks closed almost flat on Monday, after witnessing mild correction in the previous session, as risk-averse investors continued on profit taking mood.
Market insiders said the market witnessed see-saw movement almost throughout the session as a section of investors remained on profit taking mood, while some took position on sector specific stocks.
After witnessing volatile trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 4,569.13, advancing 0.70 point or 0.02 percent, after shedding 9.15 points in the past session.
However, the two other indices closed in the red. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 3.63 points or 0.20 per cent to finish at 1,785.66 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 1.10 points or 0.09 percent to close at 1,121.12 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, however, improved to BDT 4.63 billion, which was 10.76 per cent higher than the previous day’s value of BDT 4.18 billion.
A total number of 0.120 million trades were executed in day’s trading session with trading volume of 107.67 million securities.
The total market capitalization of the DSE stood at BDT 3,229.85 billion against BDT 3,230.49 billion in the previous session.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 324 issues traded, 142 closed higher, 118 closed lower and 64 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BSRM Steels dominated the turnover chart with shares worth nearly BDT 153 million changing hands, followed by Titas Gas, CVO Petrochemicals Refinery, Delta Brac Housing Finance and Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills.
BD Thai Aluminum was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.60 percent, while Fareast Life Insurance was the worst loser, slumping by 8.08 percent.
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) finished slightly higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 17.27 points to finish at 8,569.54 points.
Gainers beat losers 114 to 84, with 47 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 8.0 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of above BDT 255 million.
