Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks finished flat in green on Monday after choppy trading as investors were active on both sides of trading fence amid ongoing earnings and dividend declaration session.

Analysts said the optimistic investors showed their buying appetite on some large-cap shares while cautious investors sold shares on sector-wise issues, taking the market in the flat zone.

After witnessing volatile trading throughout the session, DSEX, the core index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), which replaced the DGEN in four-and-a-half-year back, settled at 5,996 points, after advancing 0.83 points or 0.01 percent over the previous session.

The two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 6.16 points or 0.28 percent to finish at 2,163.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 4.57 points or 0.35 percent to close at 1,310.

The trading activities remained low as total turnover on DSE amounting to BDT 5.10 billion, which was 20 percent lower than the previous day’s BDT 6.41 billion.

A total number of 0.109 million trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 146.70 million securities.

The total market capitalisation of the DSE stood at BDT 4,076 billion, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 331 issues traded, 152 closed lower, 140 closed higher and 39 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.

City Bank emerged as turnover leader with about 3.84 million shares of BDT 188 million changing hands, closely followed by Shahjalal Bank BDT 146 million, LankaBangla Finance BDT 135 million, UCB BDT 131 million and BBS Cables BDT 129 million.

Salvo Chemicals was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 10.10 percent rise, while Hakkani Pulp & Paper was the worst loser, plunging by 9.90 percent for the second running session following its no dividend declaration.

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also edged higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing by 10.72 points to settle at 11,228.

Losers beat gainers as 113 issues closed lower, 107 closed higher and 26 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 10.79 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 291 million in turnover.
