Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks finished higher on Thursday with market activities remained encouraging as some of the major sectors made progress, helped by solid gains on fundamental issues.
Market insiders said the winning streak sustained with the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed above 4,800 points mark for the second consecutive session in 2016.
The market started with an upbeat note and continued the upward trend till end of the session amid no sign of downturn, ultimately closed above 21 points higher.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 21.78 points and Selective Categories Index – CSCX – of the Chittagong Stock Exchange advanced 36.46 points.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 21.78 points or 0.45 percent to settle at 4,823.02 points, which was the highest level of DSEX since October 6 last year, when DSEX was 4,833.33 points.
The two other indices also closed higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 12.36 points or 0.69 percent to finish at 1,787.69 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 8.92 points or 0.78 percent to close at 1,149.51 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, rose to BDT 8.03 billion again, which was 27 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 6.31 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 323 issues traded, 149 closed higher, 123 closed lower and 51 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Following the green nod to raise limestone, Lafarge Surma Cement continued to top turnover chart with about 6.14 million shares ofBDT 486 million changing hands, closely followed by Shsasha Denims BDT 367 million, Bangladesh Building SystemsBDT 292 million, Peninsula Chittagong BDT 178 million and Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling MillsBDT 177 million.
Shasha Denims was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 10 percent gain, while Kohinoor Chemicals was the worst loser, slumping by 16.69 percent following price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 36.46 point to settle at 9,024.20 points.
Gainers beat losers as 126 issues closed higher, 93 closed lower and 35 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 20.40 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth overBDT 536 million in turnover.
