Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed steep gain on Sunday, the opening day after 9-day Eid vacation, as investors’ buying spree continued.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 96.31 points or 1.83 percent to close at 5,334.03 points, the highest since its inception on January 28, last year.
The two others indices also closed positive.
The DS30, comprising blue chips, gained 5.52 points or 0.27 percent to close at 1,998.69 points.
The DSE Shariah Index rose 15.07 points or 1.23 percent to close at 1,234.32 points.
However, the total turnover on DSE came down to BDT 9.15 billion, registering a decline of 2.34 percent over the last session’s value of BDT 9.37 billion.
Gainers outpaced losers as out of 305 issues traded, 246 advanced, 47 declined and 12 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.
Summit Power was the day’s most traded stocks with shares worth BDT 339.75 million changing hands followed by Titas Gas, GP, Square Pharma and Delta Life Insurance.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also saw sharp gain with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 226.78 points to close at 10,008.32 points.
Gainers beat losers 177 to 48, with 10 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 21.66 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 619.84 million.
