Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Country’s Stocks at both the bourses – Dhaka and Chittagong –bounced back on Tuesday led by the financial sector, market operators said.
Dhaka stocks ended higher on the day following correction in the previous session and its key index closed above 5,500 level for the first time in 2012 amid optimism.
 
Market opened with a positive note, gaining more than 100 points within first one hour. But, rest of the session it lost some points amid moderate ups and down and finally ended 84 points higher.
 
The benchmark General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange— (DGEN), ended at 5,502.29, rising 84.37 points or 1.55 per cent. The DGEN closed above 5,500 level for the first time in 2012 since November 22, last year.
“Banking sector had a broad based robust rally. All of the 30 banks moved higher as the investors’ poured money into the banking sector,” stated LankaBangla Securites in its regular analysis.
Out of 264 issues traded, 169 advanced, 82 declined and 13 remained unchanged.
The turnover value stood at BDT 10.13 billion, down by 9.5 percent compared to BDT 11.20 billion in the previous session.
A total of 167.54 million shares changed hands on the day against 202.35 million in the previous session. The trade deals also decreased to 205,282 against Monday’s 218,629.
The total market capitalization of the DSE increased to BDT 2,785.74 billion against BDT 2,777.43 billion in the previous session.
Among the major sectors non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) and banks gained 4.70 percent and 3.08 percent, were the big movers on the day with six NBFIs and three banks featuring in the top ten gainers list. 
Pharmaceuticals also went up marginally by 0.20 percent. However, fuel and power and telecommunications lost 0.85 percent and 0.38 percent respectively.
Grameenphone (GP) topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 434.36 million changing hands.
The other turnover leaders were Meghna Petroleum, Jamuna Oil, Titas Gas, Beximco Pharma, Beximco Limited, Lafagre Surma Cement, Islami Bank, Uttara Finance and Square Pharma.
Similarly, the CSE benchmark index, CSCX, gained 147.45 points to close at 10228.64. The CSE key index shed 121.88 points on Monday while it gained 193.87 points on Sunday.
Of the issues traded at the CSE, 110 advanced, 74 suffered losses and 12 remained unchanged.
The Chittagong bourse turnover declined to BDT 836.80 million which was BDT 977.10 million on Monday.
