Bangladesh’s stocks turn negative at midday on Thursday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks failed to stay positive territory at midday on Thursday as cautious investors are booking profit on sector-wise stocks.

Following the previous day’s moderate correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw positive trend at opening.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 16 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 39 points at 10:15am.

After first 30 minutes of trading, DSEX rose nearly 18 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 28 points at 11:00am.

Since then, it started to decline. After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE fell more than 12 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 15 points when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,871 points, losing 12.12 points or 0.20 percent at 12:00 noon.

However, two other indices stayed positive till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also advanced 0.23 points or 0.01 percent to reach at 2113 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 0.21 points or 0.01 percent to reach at 1,304 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 3.26 billion, when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

BBS Cables led the turnover chart till then with shares worth BDT 245 million changing hands, closely followed by Salvo Chemicals BDT 170 million, IBN Sina BDT 155 million, Uttara Bank BDT 138 million and Mercantile Bank BDT 107 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 136 advanced, 137 declined and 43 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw negative trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX –losing 15 points to stand at 11,028 points, also at 12:00 noon.

Of the issues traded till then, 82 gained, 79 declined and 28 issues remained unchanged with BDT 148 in turnover.
