Bangladesh’s stocks close with negative note

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks posted a marginal loss on Sunday, extending the losing spell for the second session in a row, amid mixed batch of earnings declarations.
The market opened with a mixed trend, and later part of the session saw some buying pressure, but could recover in the mid-session loss, eventually ended in the red.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and the Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of the country, experienced downward trend throughout the session.
Key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange shedded 2.09 points while the selective category index of Chittagong Stock Exchange dropped 24.18 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down by 2.09 points or 0.04 per cent to settle at 4,338.24 points.
The two other indices also saw marginal fall. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 2.63 points or 0.15 per cent to finish at 1,663.52 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also saw a fractional loss of 0.44 point or 0.04 per cent to close at 1,057.48 points.
Trading activities also came down to BDT 3.07 billion, which was 26.38 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 4.17 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 317 issues traded, 143 closed lower, 132 higher and 42 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
MJL Bangladesh dominated the turnover chart for the third running session with shares BDT 162 million changing hands, followed by United Power BDT 110 million, IBN Sina BDT 106 million, Doreen Power BDT 95 million and Lafarge Surma cement BDT 80 million.
Zaheen Spinning was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 9.62 per cent, while KDS Accessories was the worst loser, slumping by 9.83 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also edged lower with its Selective Categories Index, CSCX, falling 24.18 points to 8,106.35 points.
Losers beat gainers as 102 issues closed lower, 79 closed higher and 39 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 6.35 million shares and mutual fund units worth nearly BDT 195 million in turnover.
