Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks prices on the bourses—Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) plunged on Wednesday, a day after uptrend as most investors went for panic selling.

The General Index of the DSE—-DGEN ended at 4,035.26 points, after losing 112.02 points or 2.70 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went down by 111.50 points or 2.74 per cent to close at 3,956.89 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also lost 39.87 points or 2.72 per cent to close at 1,425.59.

The turnover on the premier bourse stood at BDT 3.24 billion, a 2.85 per cent higher from previous session’s BDT 3.15 billion.

Of the 281 issues traded on the premier bourse, 254 declined, 16 advanced, and 11 remained unchanged.

Summit Purbanchol Power Company topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 254.66 million changing hands.

Eastern Lubricant was also the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 8.29 per cent while Glaxo SmithKline was the worst loser, slumping by 10.38 per cent following its corporate declaration.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 213.10 points to close at 7,898.74 points.

Of the 185 issues traded on the port city bourse, only 18 advanced, 161 declined and 6 remained unchanged. A total of 11.45 million shares traded, generating BDT 440.15 million in turnover.
