Bangladesh’s stocks plunge at opening

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The prices of most stocks on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed steep fall in the early hours on Monday, maintaining the previous session’s trend as most investors’ are in the selling mood amid political uncertainty.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) plummeted 57.62 points or 1.54 per cent within first 30 minutes of trading to stand at 3,664.78 points at 11am when the report was filed.

Of the issues traded then, only 6 advanced, 129 declined and 7 remained unchanged.

Turnover on the DSE turnover stood at only BDT 133 million till the report was filed at 11am.

Newly listed Orion Pharma topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 18 million changing hands till then.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened with a negative note and the Selective Category Index of the CSE lost 109 points or 1.53 per cent to stand at 6989.48 points also at 11am.

Of the issues traded then, only 7 advanced, 66 declined and 6 remained unchanged.
