Bangladesh’s stocks stay positive after volatile trading

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks stayed positive trend on Wednesday, with turnover falling further, as late hours sale pressure wiped out most of the early gains.
The market started with an upward note and the key index of the country’s prime bourse rose 68 points in the mid-session, but rest of the session fell steadily and investors booked quick-gain, ultimately ended only 5.55 points higher.
The key index of the DSE added 5.55 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 5.75 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 5,473.89, advancing 5.55 points or 0.10 per cent over the previous day.
The two other indices also edged higher.
The DS30, comprising blue chips, saw a fractional gain of 0.49 point or 0.02 per cent to close at 1993.64 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 4.49 points or 0.35 per cent to finish at 1,272.77 points.
However, trading activities remained low and the total turnover came down to BDT 8.83 billion, which was 7.64 percent lower than the previous day’s BDT 9.56 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as 327 issues traded, 183 closed higher, 112 closed lower and 32 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Islami Bank dominated the DSE turnover chart for the two consecutive sessions with about 7.81 million shares of BDT 352 million changing hands, closely followed by Beximco BDT 334 million, Confidence Cement BDT 227 million, Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills BDT 217 million and LankaBangla Finance BDT 211 million.
Generation Next Fashion was the day’s highest gainer, posting 9.09 per cent rise, while Prime Finance First Mutual Fund was the worst loser, plunging by 5.93 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also stayed positive zone with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX –advancing 5.75 points to settle at 10,278.75.
Gainers beat losers as 130 issues closed higher, 101 closed lower and 25 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 19.33 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 508 million in turnover.
