Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks returned to higher on Tuesday, breaking a three-day losing spell, as investors took position on selective large-cap stocks amid optimism.

Analysts said the market backed to green as investors were active on blue chip shares ahead of year-closing.

Following the previous day’s correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened on positive note.

Within first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse crossing the 6,200-mark, gaining 44 points, but failed sustain on that level as the session progressed.

Finally, DSE core index closed more than 8.0 points higher while the CSE All Shares Price Index (CAPSI) gained 26 points at closing.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, settled at 6,167, advancing 8.26 points or 0.13 percent over the previous session.

The two other indices also closed higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips rose 13.87 points or 0.62 percent to close at 2,245.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 5.06 points or 0.37 per cent to finish at 1,372.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stood at BDT 3.71 billion, which was 3.06 percent higher than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 3.60 billion.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 335 issues traded, 174 closed lower, 108 closed higher and 53 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Islami Bank topped the day’s turnover chart with 4.71 million shares of BDT 166 million changing hands, closely followed by City Bank, Alif Manufacturing Company, Square Pharmaceuticals and Shahjalal Islami Bank.

Lafarge Surma Cement was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.88 percent while Emerald Oil Industries was the day’s worst loser, shedding 9.95 percent.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also edged higher with CSE All Shares Price Index of – advancing 22 points to finish at 19,080.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse — CSCX – also gained 15 points to settle at 11,534.

Losers beat gainers as 115 issues closed lower, 78 closed higher and 45 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 7.30 million shares and mutual fund units worth BDT 237 million in turnover.
