Bangladesh’s stocks return to green

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks returned to green on Monday, after experiencing nosedive in the last three consecutive sessions.
The market opened with optimistic note in the morning, but could not hold the trend within one hour of trading.
The DSEX, prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), plunged at 11:58am and came down to 4,599.57 points as investors followed cautious stance and went for random sell-offs amid their inability to predict future.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also saw roller coaster ride throughout the day's session.
Brokers said, investors remained watchful on overall market movements and continued pursuing cautiousness in portfolio re-balancing.
Later, the investors started to regain confidence and went for late hour buying spree helping the capital market to close with positive mood and increased turnover.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange obtained 36.60 points while the selective index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange rose 41.34 points at closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 36.60 points or 0.79 percent and closed the day at 4,644.63.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 19.90 points or 1.14 percent to finish at 1,763.39.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose to 13.94 points or 1.27 per cent to end at 1,108.54.
Total turnover stood at BDT 3.35 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 321 issues traded; 145 advanced, 131 closed lower and 45 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Lafarge Surma Cement was the day’s top turnover leader with shares of BDT 273.66 million changing hands followed by Beximco Pharma, KDS Accessories Limited, Emerald Oil Industries Ltd, IFAD Autos and GrameenPhone.
Earlier on Sunday, DSEX shed 68 points to close at 4,608 points as large cap companies declined significantly.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 41 points to end at 8,609.28.
Losers beat gainers 125 to 87, with 33 issues remained unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 2.45 billion shares and mutual fund units with a value of BDT 293 million.
