Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stock prices on the bourses ended higher on Thursday after a day of profit taking as confidence improved amid calmed political frontier and high participation.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 3,982.07 points, gaining 80.84 points or 2.07 per cent.

The other two indices also gains significantly — the DSEX went up by 57.84 points or 1.55 per cent to close at 3,773.78 while the blue chip index DS30 rose 21.14 points or 1.55 per cent to close at 1,383.07 points.

Total turnover at DSE stood at BDT 3.96 billion, down slightly by 3.17 per cent from previous session’s BDT 4.09 billion.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 270 issues traded at DSE, 235 advanced, 33 declined and seven remained unchanged.

Orion Phrama was the most traded stock of the day for the second consecutive session with shares worth BDT 198.13 million changing hands.

Premier Leasing was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.90 per cent while Pioneer Insurance was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 9.18 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the Selective Categories Index gained 121.50 points to close at 7,444.51 points.

Gainers beat losers 166 to 21 with seven issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 15.49 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 403.12 million.
