Dhaka, Bangladesh (BNN)-Bangladesh’s stocks edged marginally lower on Wednesday after previous session’s upturn as investor went for short-term profit booking on large and mid-cap stocks.
The market opened with a positive note, but the positive outlook faded away as session progressed.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), ended at 4,553.86 points, shedding 22.50 points or 0.49 percent.
The other two indices also ended in the red.
The DS30, comprising blue chips lost 6.17 points or 0.35 percent to close at 1,727.72 points.
The DSE Shariah Index shed 4.10 points or 0.38 percent to close at 1,066.15 points.
DSE turnover stood at BDT 6.42 billion, registering a decline of 13.54 percent over the previous session’s value of BDT 7.43 billion.
“The investors showed mixed emotions as the recent bullish spell continues to switch from one sector to another,” commented International Leasing Securities, in its regular market analysis.
“The day began with index hitting above 4,600 mark, however, as the time passed by, market continued to cash in on large-cap and mid-cap stocks which pulled the index down to negative territory,” said LankaBangla Securities.
IDLC Investments said: “The equity market settled downward with investors’ selling binge from the start of the day’s trade. Sequentially, all the cap classes shrank moderately and pulled broad index marginally down”.
The losers took a lead over the gainers as out of 286 issues traded, 167 declined, 87 advanced and 30 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.
Beximco Limited was the most traded stock with shares worth BDT 372.68 million changing hands followed by MJL BD, Khulna Printing & Paper, GP and Lafarge Surma Cement.
The newly listed Khulna Printing & Paper was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 7.96 percent while Kay & Que was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 8.57 percent.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed in negative with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – lost 27.95 points to close at 8,553.41 points.
Losers beat gainers 139 to 56, with 21 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 11.66 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 493.90 million.
