Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks continued their plunging trend at midday on Thursday as investors remained on selling spree.

Following the last six days’ downward tendency, both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened negative.

After first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse dropped 5.41 points while the Selective Category Index of the port city bourse decreased 8.98 points around 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 15.80 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse gained 7.42 points at 11.00am when the report was filed.

At 12noon, DSEX plunged 9.20 points and reached at 6,070 while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse dropped 29.65 points to reach at 11,368 points when this report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

After one and a half hours of the day’s trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) reached 6,070 points shedding 9.20 points or 0.15 percent.

The two other indices also saw steep fall till the time.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 6.29 points or 0.29 percent to reach at 2,171 points at 12noon.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 5.81 points or 0.43 percent to reach at 1,344 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stood at BDT 2,328 million when the report was filed at 12noon.

Of the issues traded till then, 91 advanced, 150 declined and 60 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The banking sector continued to dominate the turnover chart with Shahjalal Islami Bank led the chart till then with shares worth BDT 182 million changing hands, followed Uttara Bank BDT 154 million, Jamuna Bank BDT 132 million, NBL BDT 73 million, Dutch-Bangla Bank BDT 64 million and Sumit Power BDT 61 million.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw negative trend when this report was filed at 12noon as its Selective Category Index – CSCX – dived 29.65 points to stand at 11,368 points.

Of the issues traded till then, 40 gained, 101 declined and 24 issues remained unchanged with BDT 75 million in turnover.
