Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks fell marginally on Sunday, after remaining upbeat in the past 10 consecutive sessions, as risk-averse investors booked quick-profit.
Brokers said investors mostly preferred to short-term profit booking almost throughout the session on stocks that saw significant gain in the past few sessions while some were busy for rebalancing portfolio.
The market opened with an optimistic note and the key index of the primer bourse crossed the 5,200-mark within first 7 minutes of trading, but could not sustain that level amid profit booking sale pressure, ultimately ended 23.55 points higher.
The key index of the DSE shedded 23.55 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse fall 58.76 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down 23.55 points or 0.45 per cent to settle at 5,158.69 points, after adding about 258 points in the past 10 consecutive sessions.
The two other indices also ended in the red. The DS30, comprising blue chips, fell 3.68 points or 0.20 per cent to close at 1,860.56 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 3.58 points or 0.29 per cent to close at 1,218.61 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, came down to BDT 10.75 billion, which was 13.65 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 12.75 billion.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 326 issues traded, 211 closed lower, 89 closed higher and 26 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco dominated the DSE turnover chart for the second running session with about 17.28 million shares worth BDT 526 million changing hands, followed by The Peninsula Chittagong BDT 332 million, Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills BDT 304 million, IFAD Autos BDT 296 million and Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 277 million.
ICB was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.82 per cent rise, while Samata Leather was the worst loser, slumping 8.88 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed lower after 10 days with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – falling 58.76 points to settle at 9,582.35 points.
Losers beat gainers as 183 issues closed lower, 58 closed higher and 22 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 19.98 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 590 million in turnover.
