Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks slipped into the red on Monday amid low turnover as risk-averse investor booked quick profit on sector specific large-cap issues.
Brokers said stocks posted meager correction as cautious investors sold shares to bag some profit on quick gaining stocks.
The market started with a positive note, but could not maintain the upbeat trend as cautious investors booked quick profit on sector specific large-cap issues, ultimately ended 14.87 points lower.
The key index of DSE went down by 14.87 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 29.08 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 5,620.25, losing 14.87 points or 0.26 per cent over the previous session.
The two other indices also edged lower.
The DS30, comprising the blue-chips fell 7.67 points or 0.38 per cent to finish at 2,029.68 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 4.61 points or 0.35 per cent to finish at 1,307.46 points.
Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, fell to BDT 10.20 billion, which was 27 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 13.93 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 327 issues traded, 175 closed lower, 102 closed higher and 50 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
LankaBangla Finance dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 7.62 million shares worth above BDT 484 million changing hands, followed by Islami Bank, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, Active Fine Chemicals and Baraka Power.
Premier Leasing was the day’s highest gainer, posting 8.15 percent gain, while Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills was the worst loser, shedding 6.73 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed lower with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – falling 29.08 points to settle at 10,545.76 points.
Losers beat gainers as 151 issues closed lower, 69 closed higher and 38 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 18.73 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 595 million in turnover.
