Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks extended the winning spell for the three straight sessions on Sunday with core index of the prime bourse crossing the 5,500-mark riding on financial stocks.

Brokers said the market passed a bullish vibe as pre-Eid sale pressure eased while optimistic investors took position on banking and non-bank financial institutions stocks amid post-Eid positive expectation.

Only one trading session is left before Eid vacation as trading and official activities will remain closed from August 21 to August 25 in line with the government holidays.

The market started with an upward note and the upbeat momentum continued till end of the session with no sign of reversal.

Finally it added more than more than 70 points.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) settled at 5,538, surging by 70.76 points or 1.29 percent over the previous day.

The two other indices also finished higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 23 points to end at 1938 and the DSE Shariah Index advanced 3.67 points to close at 1,250.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, however, amounted to BDT 5.60 billion, which was 3.45 percent lower than the previous day’s BDT 5.80 billion.

Of the 333 issues traded on the DSE trading floor, 183 ended lower, 127 closed higher and 23 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

A total number of 132,384 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 208.44 million securities.

The market capitalisation of the DSE stood at BDT 3,898 billion on the day which was BDT 3,874 billion in the previous session.

BBS Cables continued to dominate the turnover chart with 2.14 million shares worth BDT 245 million changing hands, closely followed by LankaBangla Finance, City Bank, Dhaka Bank and Premier Bank.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE

The port city bourse CSE also ended higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – advancing 190 points to settle at 17,005 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gaining 117 points to finish at 10,298.

The loser, however, beat gainers as 135 issues closed lower, 97 ended higher, with 19 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 11.11 million shares and mutual fund units worth nearly BDT 264 million in turnover.
