Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks maintained the downward trend at midday on Sunday as investors are on selling spree, fearing further fall.

Stocks on both bourses witnessed steep decline in early hour of trading on Sunday as investors are on selling spree, fearing further fall.

Following the previous week’s one of the largest weekly fall in two years, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw sharp decline at opening amid thin participation of investors at trading floor.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 28 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of port city’s bourse lost 25 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX plunged more than 53 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of port city’s bourse lost 85 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX slumped by 90 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index lost 222 points at 12noon when the report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,931 points, losing 90.44 points or 1.50 percent at 12noon.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 27 points or 1.24 percent to reach at 2,200 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also fell 14 points or 0.98 percent to reach at 1,383 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 1.26 billion, when the report was filed at 12noon.

National Bank was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth BDT 75 million changing hands, closely followed by Alif Industries BDT 60 million, Monno Ceramic Industries BDT 52 million, LankaBangla Finance BDT 45 million and Usmania Glass BDT 33 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 34 advanced, 268 declined and 17 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downturn till then with CSE All Shares Price Index of port city’s bourse – shedding 222 points to stand at 18,401 points, also at 12noon.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also lost 137 points to reach at 11,112 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 20 gained, 124 declined and 7 issues remained unchanged with BDT 58 million in turnover.
