Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks keep the early hour’s positive trend at midday Tuesday amid volatility, the third session of the New Year, as investors played both sides of trading fence.
Maintaining the previous day’s upward trend, the market opened with an optimistic note in the morning with the key index of the major bourse gaining about 31 points to reach at 5,150 points within first 10 minutes of trading.
But, the early hour’s upbeat trend could not sustain for a long and gradually fell into the red territory.
After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX, the prime index DSE came down to 5,106, losing 13.52 points at 11:00am amid profit booking sale pressure.
At 12:00 noon, the key index of the DSE stands at 5,131.76 points, gaining 12.18 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 5.85 points.
After one and a half hours of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) reached at 5,131.76 points, advancing 12.18 points or 0.24 per cent at 12:00 noon.
The two other indices also maintained positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 8.47 points or 0.46 per cent to reach at 1,850.07 points at 12:00 noon.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 1.67 points or 0.14 per cent to reach at 1,211.35 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 6.26 billion when the report was filed at 12:00 noon, driven by Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO).
Of the issues traded till then, 134 advanced, 149 declined and 35 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
DESCO dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 835 million changing hands till then, followed by Beximco BDT 262 million, Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 173 million, Far Chemical BDT 172 million and Doreen Power BDT 145 million.
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw volatility and stay positive trend till 12:00 noon as its Selective Category Index – CSCX – advancing 5.85 points to stand at 9,542.24 points, also at 12:00 noon.
Of the issues traded till then, 68 gained, 128 declined and 17 issues remained unchanged with BDT 356 million in turnover.
